Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate factors related to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among older adults 55 years of age and older. Moreover, additional subgroup analysis according to the age groups was conducted to examine differences in related factors.

Method: The study has constructed variables based on the preceding research model using the Korea Health Panel data from 2015 to 2018 and investigated HRQoL related factors by conducting fixed-effect model analysis.

Results: As a result of examining related factors for 6,278 older adults through fixed-effect model analysis, ADL, IADL, physical activity, subjective health status, unmet medical care, and participation in economic activity were found to be statistically significant. Regarding additional subgroup analysis, there were differences in significance in the presence of chronic disease, ADL, smoking experience, physical activity, and economic activity by age group.

Conclusion: The results show that the health-related quality of life of older people decreases, especially when the physical function and health status deteriorated, medical needs are not met, or when the people are unable to engage in social communication. Subgroup analysis also suggested that different individual characteristics could lead to different interpretations of variables, and consequently, different results. Therefore, policies such as improving physical activity, smoking, and economic activity participation for the young-old should be promoted.
